On Nov. 2, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays to win the world series, becoming the first team in 24 years to win consecutive titles.
In Game 1 on Oct. 24, the Blue Jays won 11-4. Blue Jays’ Addison Barger made history by becoming the first ever player to hit a pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history, stepping in for outfielder David Schneider in the bottom of the sixth inning. The home run started a nine-run inning, which gave the Blue Jays momentum to build an insurmountable lead.
Game 3 went into 18 innings instead of the usual 9, lasting 6 hours and 37 minutes. The game finally ended when first baseman Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off home run to make the score 6-5 for the Dodgers. After tying the series 3-3, the Dodgers and Blue Jays faced each other in Game 7 on Nov. 2.
In the bottom of the second inning, with two outs and bases loaded for the Blue Jays, Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani struck out Andres Gimenez. In the third inning, Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette hit a 443-foot home run, and by the end of the inning, the Blue Jays were leading 3-0.
Following the costly second inning, Los Angeles tightened up their defense, and Toronto was unable to score for a few more innings. Finally, in the top of the fourth, Will Smith scored the first run for the Dodgers, making the score 1-3.
In the top of the sixth, Mookie Betts scored on a Tommy Edman sac fly. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ernie Clement hit an RBI double, scoring Andrés Giménez and giving the Blue Jays the lead at 4-1. In the bottom of the eighth, Max Muncy homered to make it closer at 3-4 for the Dodgers; in the ninth, Miguel Rojas tied the game with a home run.
After entering extra innings, Will Smith hit a home run in the 11th to win the game and clinch the series. To top off this historic series, Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto received the World Series MVP award. Yamamoto started Game 2 and 6, coming in as a relief pitcher in Game 7, pitching 17.2 innings in the World Series and giving up only two earned runs.
