Nov. 10 marked the official end of this year’s fall sports season. Throughout the season, many student athletes and teams saw great success.
This year, girls’ soccer had one of its best seasons in four years, making it to the DCSAA finals. In the first two rounds of the tournament, the team was able to show their skills, drafting teams they had previously lost to. The last time the girls were able to make it to the finals was four years prior, showing tremendous improvement.
During an interview, freshman Cora Cherilus said that she was “really happy with the season” and that this team had “given her an environment where she can improve as a player.”
Freshman Emery Stover added that “we have had a successful season, though we didn’t get the result we wanted, we still have a lot to be proud of.” The team ended their season with a record of 10-7-1 and ranked third in the Independent School League.
For the fourth year in a row, the varsity girls’ tennis team won in the Independent School League. This year, the team finished with a 14-0 record.
Sophomore Natalie Mclntosh stated that they “did really well this season, but it required a lot of grit and hard work, and there were very close matches.”
“She had a lot of tough matches, but the support of her teammates helped to give the team success,” added sophomore Roxi Hodor.
“No matter what we did, good or bad, there was always support as soon as we left the court,” Hodor said.
Led by Coach Jamar Chichester, boys’ football saw significant improvements this season compared to last. Sophomore AJ Valbrune described their season as an “improvement,” and he discussed how hard the team worked.
The varsity girls’ volleyball team began the season with a new head coach, Sareea Freeman, and assistant coach, Maya Silva. With this new coaching staff, the team had a very successful season. The team made it to the Independent School League semi-finals, working hard throughout the tournament. Sophomore Amaia Fowler said, “I’m proud of us as a team because we put a lot of effort in.” Her teammate Ava Ghassemi also credited her new coaches, saying how much they have helped the team improve.
Overall, the victories of the 2024 fall sports season showcased the strength of Sidwell’s athletic community and highlighted the dedication of its student athletes.
