Sidwell’s Student Government Hosts Annual English Class Dodgeball Tournament

On April 23, Brian Loo’s 12th grade period seven class won the annual English class dodgeball tournament. Loo’s period seven class won against Alonzo Vereen’s 11th grade period seven class after defeating Samantha Goodwin’s ninth grade period seven class.
Teams fight hard while competing in the NCAA tournament championships this year.

Florida Rallies, UConn Dominates in March Madness Finals

The Florida Gators Men’s Basketball Program overcame a 12-point deficit to win their third national championship in a 65-63 win over the Houston Cougars. Meanwhile, in the Women’s NCAA Tournament, the UConn Huskies triumphed over defending champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks, in an 82-59 win. 
American Alysa Liu won gold in the women’s singles competition with a score of 222.97.

Team USA Finds Success at the 2025 World Figure Skating Championships

The team was led by Ilia Malinin, who won gold in men’s singles with a score of 318.56. Malinin successfully executed six quadruple jumps in an impressive performance, breaking the world record for the most quadruple jumps landed in a single program.
Dudley is leaving the Sidwell Girls Varsity Basketball Program to continue her career at the St. James Performance Academy.

Over spring break, sophomore Sidwell Boys Varsity Tennis Players Akshay Mirmira and Boning Wang, won the Boys 16 & Under Doubles Title at the Easter Bowl Tennis Championships — a US Tennis Association (USTA) L1 National Championship level event.
Torpedo bats were first used by the Yankees in the MLB.

New York Yankees’ Torpedo Bats Lead to Massive Attention and New MLB Records

Developed by former Massachusetts Institute of Technology physicist and current Miami Marlins staffer Aaron Leanhardt, the bats are designed to mimic a torpedo shape to redistribute the bat’s weight to the most dense part, called the “sweet spot,” which is closer to the handle.
Jackson is now among the many Sidwell alumni who have won Gatorade Player of the Year awards.

Quaker Games Returns, Nurturing Community Through Competition

Established several years ago, the Quaker Games have evolved — similar to English Class Dodgeball — into a beloved ritual for students across all grade levels, marking a period of excitement and engagement from the middle of February until the academic year’s end. 
On March 2, the Sidwell Friends Girls Varsity Basketball Team beat St. Johns College High School 72-44 in the DCSAA Championship.

On Feb. 24, May made his official return to the Dodgers and pitched one scoreless inning in a spring training game.
