Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift announced their engagement on Aug. 26.
On Aug. 26, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post captioned, “Your english teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” The post revealed engagement photos of the pair in the back garden of Kelce’s home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
The couple’s story together began in July 2023 when Kelce attended Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour with his number on a friendship bracelet. He was unable to give it to her, but following encouragement from Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a few others close to Swift, Swift decided to reach out to him. The two began dating shortly after. Since then, Swift has been spotted at several Chiefs games. According to a report by MarketWatch, these appearances have brought an estimated $1 billion in revenue to the NFL.
Kelce and Swift are “just crazy about each other,” said Ed Kelce, Travis Kelce’s father. He revealed in an interview that the couple actually got engaged on Aug. 10, about two weeks before the public announcement. According to ABC News, Travis Kelce immediately called him and the rest of their family to break the good news. Ed Kelce also said that he was excited for the couple’s marriage, noting that he had not seen his son happier than when he was with Swift.
In addition to the couple’s love for each other, some of the most discussed aspects of the engagement are Swift’s ring and the couple’s engagement outfits. Reportedly created by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, the ring is hand-engraved in yellow gold with a vintage-inspired design. The stone is an 8-carat, elongated old mine cut diamond. Swift’s ring is estimated to have a cost of around $1 million to $1.3 million. Fans also immediately identified Swift’s black-and-white striped sundress as a $398 silk blend dress from Ralph Lauren. Swift also wore a Cartier Santos Demoiselle watch, a yellow-gold design featuring a diamond-set bezel that was discontinued in the 2000s but has now become incredibly sought-after. Even Swift’s shoes, $930 Louis Vuitton Isola Sandals, are sold out in most sizes. Kelce’s outfit was simple yet tasteful, featuring a cable-knit polo from Ralph Lauren paired with khakis and loafers.
Their announcement came exactly 13 days — Swift’s lucky number — after her appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by brothers Jason and Travis Kelce. During the two-hour-long episode, Swift revealed new details about her relationship, saying it is “sort of what [she’d] been writing songs about wanting to happen to [her] since [she] was a teenager.” Throughout the podcast, the couple appeared smitten with each other, playfully laughing and bantering as they talked about Swift’s sourdough hobby and her new obsession with football.
The couple also discussed how they handle the constant media attention on their relationship, with Swift saying that her “name can be in the actual headline and it can still be none of [her] business.” Perhaps the most exciting part of the episode was when Swift announced her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” The 12-track album, whose title track features Sabrina Carpenter, is set to be released on Oct. 3. Between Swift’s new album, the start of the NFL season and their engagement, the couple will certainly receive their fair share of publicity as Swifties and Chiefs fans alike await what is certain to be a memorable wedding.
